Why one contractor changes the job

On building work, most of the lost time is between trades rather than during them.

An engineer working on pipework in a plant room with a van outside
  1. Nothing waits on a booking

The electrician doing your first fix is on site already. Nobody is pencilled in for a fortnight's time.

  2. One person carries the sequence

When plaster needs to dry before second fix, that is planned rather than discovered on the morning.

  3. Certification arrives together

Gas Safe, NAPIT, FENSA and MCS under one roof, so the paperwork is not chased from three firms months later.

  4. And there is nobody to point at

Where one trade's work affects another's, it is the same company either side of the line.

How a job runs

Day one

We talk

Most jobs can be scoped well enough on the phone to know what they need.

Within days

A visit

Anything beyond a repair gets looked at before it is quoted.

In writing

The quotation

Itemised, so labour, materials and options are separable.

Booked

The work

With a date rather than a window, and a sequence if more than one trade is involved.

On completion

Certification

Gas Safe, electrical or FENSA, issued and registered.

What happens once we leave

This is the part of the business people come back to.

Your paperwork, on the day

Whichever certification the work needs, issued and registered rather than promised.

A two year guarantee

On our workmanship, in writing, transferable if you sell, and insurance-backed.

Annual servicing

Annual boiler and heat pump servicing, booked ahead.

One number, not a call centre

Five working days, and 24 hours with no heating or hot water.

The questions we get asked most

Do you do small jobs?

Yes. A radiator, a socket, a leaking valve. Most of our repeat work is ordinary jobs for people who have used us before.

Are you registered for gas and electrical work?

Gas Safe 603349 and NAPIT 68787, both checkable on the public registers. FENSA 47480 for windows and doors.

Do you use subcontractors?

Plumbing, heating and electrical are our own. Where a specialist trade is genuinely needed we tell you who and what they are doing.

Can you do an extension?

Single-storey rear and side extensions, loft and garage conversions. Not new-build.

Do you handle building control?

Yes, on anything structural, along with party wall agreements where they apply.

Is there VAT on building work?

Yes, at the standard rate. The 0% relief covers solar, battery storage, heat pumps and insulation.
