- Ventilation, damp & asbestos
Find out what it is, then fix it.
Damp, mould, ventilation and asbestos, across Chertsey and Surrey. Surveyed and measured before anybody specifies anything.
Three different problems, often confused
They look similar on a wall and they want completely different work.
- Damp & mould surveyMeasured readings and a written diagnosis, so nobody specifies a fix for the wrong problem.
- Ventilation improvementsExtract, PIV and MVHR. What most black mould actually needs.
- Asbestos survey & removalIdentification, sampling and licensed removal in pre-2000 properties.
- Thermal imaging surveyWhere the cold spots are, which is usually where the condensation appears.
Why the order matters
The most expensive mistake in this area is treating a symptom that belonged to a different cause.

Condensation comes from inside
Moist air meeting a cold surface. Corners, behind furniture, around windows, worst in winter. It is a ventilation and insulation problem.
Penetrating damp comes from outside
A gutter, a roof, failed pointing, a bridged cavity. A patch that follows the weather. Fixing the path is the job; ventilation will not touch it.
Rising damp comes from below
Low down, along a wall, with a tide mark. Far rarer than it is diagnosed, and worth measuring properly before anyone injects anything.
Asbestos is a separate question entirely
Nothing to do with damp, but it turns up in the same houses. Anything built before 2000 may contain it, and it is identified before work starts, not during.
Surveys and work we have done
Moisture readings, air tests and the work that followed.

How it runs
What you are seeing
Where it is, when it started, and what changed in the house beforehand.
Measured
Moisture readings, humidity, and where the cold surfaces actually are. Asbestos sampling where the age of the property warrants it.
The diagnosis
What it is, what is causing it, and what it will take. Before anybody quotes for work.
The work
Ventilation, fabric, or the specialist removal, depending on what the survey found.
Checked
Re-measured, so you can see that what was done worked.
What happens once we leave
Damp problems are the ones most likely to come back if the cause was missed.
Your paperwork
The survey report with the readings in it, and certification for any work carried out.
A two year guarantee
On our workmanship, in writing, transferable if you sell, and insurance-backed.
Re-measured afterwards
The point of measuring first is being able to measure again and show the difference.
One number, not a call centre
If it comes back, you ring us and we come and find out why.
Two things people ask about next
Both have a page of their own.
The questions we get asked most
Is my black mould rising damp?
Almost certainly not. Mould in corners, behind furniture and around windows, worst in winter, is condensation. Rising damp is diagnosed far more often than it occurs.
Do I need a survey, or can you just quote?
For damp, a survey first. Quoting for damp work without measuring is how people end up paying twice for the wrong fix.
Does my house have asbestos?
Anything built before 2000 may contain it. Where it is, and whether it needs doing anything about, is what a survey establishes.
Is asbestos always dangerous?
No. Undisturbed and in good condition it is often safest left alone and managed. It is disturbing it that creates the risk, which is why it is identified before work starts.
Can you do the survey and the work?
Yes, and we will tell you if the survey says you do not need work. That is the point of measuring first.

Often worth doing at the same time
Same team, same survey, one visit where it makes sense.

Tell us what you are seeing.
Where it is, when it appears, and what changed. Send a photograph if that is easier. We will tell you what it looks like and what it would take to find out.
